Carbon Summer

Somewhere after the harvest moon, and after October warmth called "Indian summer"

We are having a warm November that I am calling "carbon emissions summer" or "climate change summer".

I am not sure I have spent much time on November days sitting outside.

It's quiet on the front porch.

Very quiet.

Only human noises.

And the occasional overwintering Robin.

We haven't had a hard frost yet and so our Zinnias are still blooming.

It's warm enough for the remaining butterflies, moths, and bees to be all over them.

There isn't much else blooming. Final meal?

But again, the most striking feature on a sunny windless November day is how quiet she is.

How the day is not longing for summer

it isn't making babies or pollinating.

November is just what it is. Today.
