Prayers for the Church 2: Petitions for a broken Church
I'm writing and praying a prayer a day for the next 9 days (a novena) as a response to the sexual abuse crisis, homophobia crisis, sexuality crisis, gender crisis, misogyny crisis, and honesty crisis in the Catholic church- particularly as it has been expressed in the Pennsylvania Grand Jury Report.
That voices rarely heard may be shouted from the steeple...we pray to the Lord.
That the body of Christ, revealed as the people of God, may be treated with dignity, honor, and profound kindness. . . We pray to the Lord.
That those in power will sit down. Shut up. Listen. And let their own hearts and minds be changed by the stories of the people of God. . . We pray to the Lord.
That in my places of woundedness. In my places of pride. In my places of sinfulness I may too be converted to the gospel...We pray to the Lord.
That God, as she nurses us in our brokeness and midwives us in bringing new life, may be a loud presence with us on the journey of renewal...We pray to the Lord.
That the Holy Spirit will burst through the stain glassed window. That she will ignite us with the rage, passion and love to change our church...We pray to the lord.
