So now I am 30.

I turned 30 this week.  I'm not feeling sentimental about it really, except that everyone around me seems to be thinking that I should be.  The thing is, I really did my twenties very well!  I fell in love a handful of times, I lived in a foreign country, backpacked in several foreign countries, fell out of love once or twice, got lots of education, had at least 8 different jobs, drank too much sometimes, skinny dipped a lot, moved at least 6 times, walked thousands of miles, bought sexy shoes, bought comfortable shoes, experimented with style, body, relationships, among other experiments. I married. I had a baby.  I worked for people in need in prison, in Haiti, in my various work.  I got swallowed by a cave of grief and worked my way through discovering another path out of the cave. I got on facebook and started a blog. I bought a digital camera.  I learned how to fight better and how to love better.

So I don't mind turning 30 at all. Because it seems that I really did my 20's very very well.  There is little else to do with them.  Figuring how to live the values that stem from my 20's into my 30's seems like a pretty great idea.  I am sure that when I write similar words at 40 they will be consumed with child raising and growing and being challenged in that.  I'm okay to let that be a new place/stage.

  1. I hope you had a wonderful birthday friend! I know we haven't seen eachother or talked in years but I still think of you around this time of year because I remember that our birthdays are so close together. It sounds like both of us experienced so much in our 20's. Such a time of growth. I hope our 30's are great as well. Maybe at some point in our 30's we can even hang out once or twice! :)
